Does anyone know which hostels offer work for keep, if any; and how do I find this out, just call every one on hostels.com and ask them? In San Francisco, by comparison, only one of them offered it at all and that one wouldn't let women wash dishes or clean the kitchen.

I don't think I've ever seen that question asked here before...if you find any who would let you work instead of pay, be sure to come back and let us know. I'd be curious if you find any. My guess is you won't, but I really don't know much about hostels.
