If you browse the apt. listings on craigslist, you'll get an idea of what kind of rents to expect. Also, most landlords require that your annual salary be 40x or 45x your monthly rent.

Central Park is big. Which subway lines are near your job? That'll give an idea of the best areas to commute from.
