Hello! I am visiting NY in May with another of my 2 girl friends and we are first timers from Singapore.

We are thinking of staying at the Big Apple Hostel or either Milburn or Herald Square Hotel. We have never really stayed at hostels before, so would you say the Big Apple is a good place to go to for a hostel? If we were to choose a hotel, which would you recommend in terms of location, as their prices are pretty close?

Another question is, if we are exploring NY, would a week pass for the subway be worth it for 4 days?

I think visitors tend to overestimate how many subway rides they will be taking to make a 7-day pass worthwhile. You can't share them, by the way. I would recommend buying $20 pay-per-ride Metrocard and sharing it among the 3 of you.
