Is it safe to go to Yankee Stadium on a non game day via the subway from Penn Station for photos and possibly a tour. My daughter and I will be visiting and we want to a least see the place. I've heard it is in a rough neignborhood, and I would not be concerned if we were going to a game.

I went on the stadium tour (tour guide - Tony Morante) in January 2001 and, thus, a non-game day.
Most enjoyable, loads of photos, visit to Monument Park included.
Well worth it.
I was on my own (46 year old English male) and felt very safe.
Stadium right next to the subway station.
Shops on River Drive selling all sorts of stuff but the stadium shop was closed.
Highly recommend it. You can sort it out online here
