I wanted to rent an apartment in manhattan, however, it is too expensive especially because I am a college student. I was wondering if there are any safe neighbors that are cheaper rent than manhattan in brooklyn?

Yeah, look into the Downtown Brooklyn area. Do what I did: google a map of new york city, specifically Brooklyn. Look at the area that is considered Downtown Brooklyn. You should see names of neighborhoods such as "Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill, Fort Greene" Use craigslist.com and type in these neighborhoods into your search. Now, you MUST go see them in person to make sure that the block your on is nice, because one block could be nice and the next block could be grimey. Let me know how your search goes.

you could also try Woodside or Sunnyside, Queens. Affordable and close to manhattan.
