ieee488 is right on the bridge and the airport. As for views of the city, the on from the Brooklyn side is probably the most popular, but I really think the ones from NJ are the most beautiful.

If you get a chance to head over the Hudson to NJ, try to take in the sites, especially at night, from the NJ side.

Also, driving up or down the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (I-278) you get some great moments of breathtaking beauty of the city. Then again, you're also trying to not to die in a fatal car accident.

Your best bet is to walk or take a bus/subway from near the Brooklyn Bridge on the Manhattan side over to the Brooklyn side and walk around the shore a bit.

One of the most spectacular views of Manhattan skyline can be seen by NJ commuters as they enter or leave NYC by car or bus via the Lincoln Tunnel. Never fails to take my breath away.

The view from Hoboken NJ is fantastic and Hoboken itself is a great place with lots of great restaurants and shops, it is definitely worth a visit, it takes around 15-20 minutes from Manhattan on the Path train.
