I'm traveling from out of town and would like advice regarding NYC parking. Please help!!!

Where is the best place to park in Manhattan for a long period of time at the cheapest rate possible?
What other parking options are convenient?
Is there free or cheap parking at nearby subway or bus stations that you can park your car at for the day and return to in the evening?
Which places should be avoided for parking in regards to tickets, etc?
