Importance of Vaastu Shastra.. (no replies)

Vaastu Shastra which is considered a conduit between man and nature is based on the infinite powers of the five elements - fire, water, earth, and air and space. It essentially deals with two energy sources - the solar energy flux and the geomagnetic energy flux. This science aims at controlling the flow of these two energies by selecting proper directions and alignments for the vaastu. Vaastu is basically aimed at harnessing the higher energy levels within the self and can help in various aspects of life. The residential and commercial real estate properties in Chennai constructed nowadays rely on the basics of the five Elements in all aspects of planning. The five Elements or the Paanchbhootas which are embedded in almost all materials in the world are used by Vaastu Shastra to diminish the problems of occupants. Location of doors, windows, color scheme, flooring patterns, planting of trees - all these parameters play an important role in enhancing the energy field of a human being to live in harmony with nature.
History says that Vishwakarma had first of all given the methods of construction and decoration of buildings. It is known as Vaastu Shastra or the architecture. References to these methods and art are found in the sources of ancient Indian culture such as the Vedas, Purans , Ramayana, Mahabharata and other Sanskrit epics. It is believed that the orientation or direction of a building, according to Vaastu is planned on the basis of the rotational setting of the planets and those buildings that are not planned keeping in mind the orientation and not constructed with suitable building materials as proposed by Vaastu see their decline to ruins much faster than those built otherwise. This is the main reason why most of the builders are following these vaastu measures during the construction of houses in Chennai.

On Tuesday, the Bloomberg administration released a treasure trove of 870,000 digitized images and media from the New York City Department of Records. This vast collection includes photographs dated from 1858, color images from the 1980s of every building in the city, and farm maps dated to 160 years ago.

Viewers can now experience an online exhibit of the vintage city: painters suspended from the Brooklyn Bridge (1914), two young girls walking along 42nd Street (1890), and much more.

Although the gallery is accessible free on the city’s Web site, I haven’t been able to get in the past day because traffic is so heavy the servers are down.

Most people in Chennai updating their kitchens with accessories and paint, rather than with full renovations. Paint can make it for a few more years. Many people using lot of really bright colors like red, orange, a lot of juicy citrus shades like orange, lemon and lime, being used in small appliances. It's become main stream now in Chennai property market, to have a lime green mixer, for instance, whereas in the past, people were frightened to buy them in bold colors. But the trend for years has been families gathering together in the kitchen, so the spaces have become more fun and friendly.
Casual and collaborative method of living, preparing, cooking, eating and entertaining are reflecting through the designing trends. Kitchen get cleaner look by integrated appliances like drawer-style fridges, and fridges, ovens, microwaves and dishwashers fronted to match the cabinetry. Most manufacturers in Chennai are now catching-on these trends in Chennai villas and flats. The recent method coming is to use stained wood and paint in the same kitchen. But not just like any regular stain and paint. It’s using grey-wash stain on walnut cabinetry, mixed with white shelves. Kitchen is the place where the ‘real work' happens in the home’s. So it’s very important to keep it clean and simple.

Hello!
My Fiancée and my self are coming over from Ireland in May next year to get married in New York. We have our church booked, but we are struggling in trying to find a reception venue.
There is so much choice in Manhattan we would really appreciate any recommendations at all!
The wedding party would be 13 - 17 people people in total, Although we would like a fairly private section in a restaurant, I don't think a private room is needed.
What would be most important would be a really good atmosphere, excellent service and food, and ideally a place for us to stay well into the night!

I was hoping I could get recommendations because there is such a large choice, and it is hard to gauge atmosphere from online reviews!

Thank you very much in advance!
Every real estate builders has to maintain highest standards of quality to ensure customer delight. Previously, ‘Flat' was the only term which was used to refer to a house on a single floor. Now it changed to duplex model apartments. Many Chennai developers are making duplex model apartments to attract the customers. Why people are interested in duplex model apartments?.. Defining duplex apartments as an apartment spread across two floors connecting an inner staircase. Many of the new Chennai apartments have open-plan designs.
Popular developers of Chennai are now offering variety of duplex apartments. The reason is that planning rules them to mark out a certain space of family units whereas the duplexes qualify in this regard. Now Duplex projects have been introduced in Chennai and became popular in smaller towns as well. Offering a segregation of space and permitting their integration through vertically flowing space linking the lower and upper floors demarcating the formal and informal living areas.
(and getting there by subway at night?)

We might be visiting midtown Manhattan, and my friend has never seen a beach.. Ideally I'd take him to Montauk but we don't have the time, so I'm considering Long Beach. I can't find much information about how safe it is at night.

We'd be going to the beach probably a little past midnight and coming back around 6am (unfortunately the only time slot we have left). I've never taken the subway in new york day or night so I don't know how true the rumors are.

I've found some subway tips, but can any of you tell me anything about Long Island beach at night? Safe? Do you still have to pay $12 to get in? Are we even allowed to be there at night? Is the roundtrip fare still $18 or has that changed?

Please and thanks!

Hello,

Do you know some spots in the city where it's possible to appreciate some nice graffiti works? I know there are some in East Village and LES. Do you know the exact addresses?

Any tips for bringing a motorcycle to the city? I've heard people park them on sidewalks; is that not ticketed? I'll be living in Harlem, at 140 & 7th...not sure if different parts of the city.
Thanks!

We will be visiting NY for the first time May 18-21st. We are going to the Yankees games but also want to sight see. Where is a good (safe) place to stay (moderate budget - not planning on being in the room that much) that is nearer the sights to see and how can we get to Yankee stadium from there? What are the "must-dos" in terms of sights and food??

There are some wonderful images here. By far my favorite is the first one, Jin Suk's silhouetted design.
I wont set myself up go broke in 2 days. I am 28, single, no children. I have begun a strict budget for myself.
For askanynewyorker.com

With space at a premium in New York it can be hard to know what to do with excess stock, furniture, goods, or indeed anything. Whether you are looking to move house but need somewhere to hold your furniture for a month or two in the meantime, or whether you are a business looking for long term commercial storage, the chances are that it’s going to work out much more cost effective to use a company that specializes in New York Self Storage rather than to pay for premises yourself.
Using self storage allows you to cheaply and easily store whatever it is that’s cluttering up your personal or business life without the need to take out expensive leases, purchase new space or commit to long contracts. Simply store your boxes, items of furniture, old goods, or even your vehicles and pay one simple low monthly fee. The real beauty of self storage is that you can then go and access your goods whenever you wish.
Using self storage also allows for plenty of flexibility. If you are a growing business in need of extra space then it can be hard to know how much space to commit to. This can make renting new, bigger premises a tricky decision. By using self storage you can start off renting a small place that is suitable for today’s needs but take comfort in the knowledge that as and when your business grows, you can indeed increase the amount of space that you have available to you in your self storage facility too! This allows for maximum flexibility, minimum outlay and superior cost-effectiveness.
Uncle Bob’s Self Storage provides all types of storage solutions from vehicle storage through to commercial storage and can even help with truck rental and moving boxes.

My boyfriend and I are visiting New York from the UK in early June and would like some advice on bars/clubs to go to?

We would like to go somewhere cool/trendy with a laid back vibe - nowhere too prententious! Somewhere where we can have a few cocktails and party.
It's my boyfriends birthday while we are over there so we would like to go for dinner first then hit some bars - so any suggestons of restaurants would be welcome too!

Many thanks
