To me, a new yorker is somebody who loves new york just for being new york!

Not somebody that wants to go there just because of all the "great" movies they've seen about it!

I am german and i visited new york in 2000 with my parents. we have a friend that is a REAL new yorker (born in manhattan, never lived it) who showed us around. I just loved everything he told us!
Ever since then i have wanted to live in new york. Just because I loved the city, the cultural diversity, the houses, the streets, the subway and especially the PEOPLE!!!

Right now I am spending my junior year of High school as an exchange student in a VERY small town in Nebraska with a population of 700. It is hard for me to explain to people why i love new york and why i want to live there. To them it is all just crime and loud and too many people. They think Omaha and Lincoln (which have a population of 100,000 to 300,000 people) are big cities and they got stressed out by all the people after we had been there for 2 nights on a class trip.

I love new york because it is so different than the rest of the united states and because it is not what you expect at all!!

I would definetly not consider myself a new yorker yet but I hope to become one, one day after I have lived there long enough.......

I can't help being born in germany and I am really jealous of all the lucky people who were born and raised in NY!

But i don't think being born in germany makes me less able to become a great new yorker one day!
