Hi all,

I am an Indian unmarried girl. I got a job in Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Upper east of Manhattan near central park. Mount Sinai offers me an on-campus 1BR apartment for $1800. And, Parkchester is only $900. So, my question is what could be the commute cost($$$) between Parkchester, bronx and Manhattan. Is Parkchester really a good choice. Are the commute hours flexible so as to keep up with my schedule sometime. Some body told me it has Direct, green subway line?

Please advice. Shruti

Take the Manhattan apt. and get a roommate. By the way, $1,800 is really cheap for a 1BR in Manhattan.

You'll get to know the city and the subway once you're here, but a quick tip is never to refer to subway lines by color. The colors are only used to differentiate the lines on the subway map. For example, there are three subway lines that are green on the map (4, 5, 6), but while they share part of each route along Lexington Ave. in Manhattan, they end up on three separate routes in the Bronx.

I see several advantages to living in Manhattan.

Sleeping in longer or having time to exercise in the morning.

Lunch at your apartment - big savings

Nap at lunch - priceless

Getting home fast enough to change from work clothes and go play in the city.

I am a postdoc at Mt Sinai, living in housing (Manhattan). Mt Sinai housing office offers the Parkchester housing at cheaper rates because NOBODY wants to go live there. It is far and, although Parkchester seems to be an OK area to live, surrounding areas are not the safest in the city. The commute is around 30 minutes (which can be annoying if you have to use the subway at night or on weekends).
I am surprised that they offered you a one bedroom at $1800 when they are usually cheaper. For $1400 they have one bedroom in the building I am living right now. For less than that ($1250) they usually offer studios (there are also some studios that are cheaper).

Ask them for the full listing or go to the housing website and check it yourself prior to signing any lease.

good luck.

Hi everyone ,
Can someone help me get the exact address / location of Sinai Postdoctoral housing in Parkchester , Bronx ?
They just mention the area and not any building number. Hence it leaves me confused as to how far this housing is from 6 subway station ? Also the exact address helps me decide if I should at all choose this housing over the one's in Manhattan.
Thanks in advance.
Sona
