The cheapest would be at flea markets or street fairs. Here's a link to the street fair calendar:

Alternatively, there's a flea market every Sunday in the school playground at 79th & Columbus. There's always a guy selling cheap rugs there.

How about the sales at ABC Carpet? You can get some decent bargains there.

ABC carpet oouch!!! Here's the place get off at Lorimer Street....right under the Brooklyn Queen Expressway five min from trrain station is a large ware house carpet store...Excellent prices!!!

Thanks, Jeb. Actually, ABC does have some great bargains. Even in broadloom. I was browsing recently, shocked that the cheapest seemed to be $25-$35 a yard, and the salesman told me many were reduced, and even some really nice carpeting priced around $38 was actually $10 a yard. Big difference, you've just got to ask. And, they've got a nice remnant area.
