9/11 trial New York: 9/11 trial in NYC called off due to huge cost
30 January, 2010
WASHINGTON, (KUNA): 9/11 trial New York: 9/11 trial in NYC called off due to huge cost. After intense pressure from New York officials, the Obama administration has reversed course and decided against holding the trial of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror suspects in Manhattan, according to multiple media reports on Friday night.
"New York is out," one administration official told the Washington Post, speaking on condition of anonymity. "We are considering other options." The US Justice Department is drawing up plans for alternate locations to try alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four alleged accomplices, two administration officials said.

A night of “wilding” in midtown
that left four people shot
gave New Yorkers reason to
worry the bad old days of street
crime were coming back.
What’s more, some claimed
authorities dropped the ball by
not warning businesses about
what has become an Easter
tradition of violence.
With murders up 22.5 percent
and shootings up 19 percent
this year, many fear the days of
low crime are ending.
“We need to get in front of
this growing epidemic before
we find ourselves reliving the
bad old days of the 1970s,”
Manhattan Borough President

NY’s Times Square evacuated in car bomb scare
US: Police evacuated the heart of New York’s packed Times Square area late Saturday on suspicion that a parked vehicle contained a bomb. New York Police Department (NYPD) Detective John Sweeney said the bomb squad was called to inspect a suspicious vehicle that was on fire in the square.
“There seemed to be smoke coming out of the car. Now they’re removing stuff out of the car to check what it is,” he told AFP. Sweeney said the bomb squad was examining the suspicious items in the car and would determine whether they amounted to an improvised explosive device.
“They didn’t find a bomb in the car, but they found some other things,” he said.
There was no explosion and no one was injured in the incident.

I saw that Mayor Bloomberg took the police officer and his wife to dinner at Blue Fin. I wonder whether a dinner invitation was also extended to the street vendors who actually went and got the officer, who then did his job. Not to take anything away from the officer, but he was doing his job. The ones who went above and beyond are the street vendors.

Earlier this month the New York Police Department ran an antiterrorism exercise simulating an attack on the city.
A team of terrorists unleashed a coordinated series of bombings and gun attacks around the city in the simulation. At one point, terrorists attacked New York police officials visiting wounded officers in a hospital. By the time the daylong attacks were over, dozens of people had been killed and many more wounded.

New York City drew a record 48.7 million visitors last year, marking a 6.8% increase from 2009 and the strongest signal yet that the tourism industry is rebounding from the downturn caused by the global recession, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Tuesday.

dont believe "constat"
Re: Is New York safe?January 27, 2011 06:25PM |
Since Giuliani and it continues with Bloomberg, the NYPD has been pressured to fudge the statistics on crime to make serious felonies appear as more benign misdemeanors (murder=suicide, car theft=unauthorized use of vehicle, burglary=trespassing, felony assaults get pleaded down to disorderly conduct, etc). Any cop below captain that has been on the job 10 years will admit it...part of the reason aside for the mayors ego is for the tourism industry. of course Times Square and other tourist areas are safe and mobbed with cops. I know it seems farfetched but Compstat and its lies are well documented and in fact are being investigated by the FBI. Anyone who really knows the city knows the truth..there are lies, damn lies, and statistics.
