Hello,

I received a ticket from a NY State trooper on Northern State parkway doing 74 in a 55 in Suffolk county. Is this worth pleading not guilty to? I hear Nassau plea bargins but I am not sure about suffolk county. Thanks

Last week I was visiting family in Saint Albans. My finance and I were coming w/b on 115Th St. I get to Farmers BLvd when I noticed two blocks away there was cops coming with there lights on. The cop pulled me over and told me a ran a stop sign @ 119Th St where some little boy was hit a week prior. I stated to the office how did I run a stop sign when there was a truck going through the the stop sign heading s/b. He told me there wasn't any cars (which I knew he was lying). I handed him the reg, insurance, and my license. He seen that I was from PA. He asked about the car and I informed it yes it was a rental. He made me wait for almost an hour just to write a ticket. I know I did everything legal. I'm wondering if I fight this ticket is there a strong possibility that I can win being that I have a witness? Please advise
Keith,

This is a 4-point ticket and can hurt your auto insurance rates. I therefore recommend fighting it.

You are correct that Suffolk County does not have plea-bargaining. However, it is worth fighting because you have no down side to fight your ticket and only upside (possibly getting a dismissal).

Feel free to call us for a free consultation.

Thank you.

Rhonda,

It is possible to get this ticket dismissed. You and your witness' testimony, however, is not likely to help much. When it is your word against an officer's, the DMV judge almost always believes the officer.

We have other ways of trying to obtain a dismissal so feel free to call us for a free consultation.

I got a ticket for making an improper left turn across Queens Boulevard. I was told by a family friend, who is a retired NYPD officer, to plead not guilty and to go to court to try to reduce the number of points I might receive.

However, in reading this forum, it seems like it's not possible to plea-bargain in a Queens traffic court. Is that true?

(As background, I did make the turn, but I was unfamiliar with the area, there was a car honking behind me, my daughter was crying and the GPS I was using instructed me to make the turn -- so it was all very confusing. I've never received a ticket before in 23 years of driving. I don't know if any of this will matter though.)

Thank you for your input.
Matty,

This is a 6-point point ticket, carries about a $200 fine plus a $300 driver assessment fee. It also can hurt your auto insurance rates.

Therefore, we definitely recommend fighting it. Plead not guilty and you will be given a conference date. At the conference you will likely be offered a reduction which will save you points and money.

Feel free to call us if you have further questions. We're happy to help.

Finding out about Citations

I might have received a citation this weekend in Staten Island, but I have no paperwork from it, so I am unsure if I actually received one. I called the precinct and they told me there was no way for them to look this up.

Is this true? and if so, is there any way of finding out if I did receive a citation?

Any help would be appreciative

Hi, I got a ticket in Island Park , Nassau county but the cop who said i was going 46 in a 30 only wrote " disobey sign" on the ticket. Can I plea this down to a 0 point ticket to not raise my insurance? Is that possible? Or is it better to just pay the ticket ? I have a very clean license and don't think i have ever gotten a moving violation before. Any advice would be great. Thanks!
Carolyn,

Yes, plead not guilty. There is no plea bargaining in this court so you will have to take this case for a hearing. You have nothing to lose, however. If you lose, you get the same 2 points that you would get if you just plead guilty.

How is an article which may help entitled "Fighting A Traffic Ticket At The Traffic Violations Bureau".

Otherwise, call me for a free consultation.

To locate a traffic ticket issued in New York City, go to the Traffic Violations Bureau website.

Mordechai,

A 46/30 speeding ticket carries 4 points and can result in your insurance rates being raised, In Nassau, you can plea this down to a lesser charge. You most likely can get it reduced it to a 2-point ticket which won't result in your insurance rates increasing if you have and maintain an otherwise clean record.

Feel free to call us if you have any questions.
