Weird question: where can I get European lightbulbs for my Italian light fixture?? Any specialized lighting stores in NYC would be helpful. Thanks!

Where are you going to get the European electricity for these European lightbulbs?

LOL, I'm gonna have to agree with Eric. Unless you mean something specific by "European lightbulbs," if lightbulbs here in America don't fit, you'll probably have to get the lamp rewired, which any lighting fixture store should be able to do.

This is not a stupid question! I have just moved here with various European lamps, and was assured that rewiring them would allow them to work in the US. But this still doesn't get around the problem of finding lightbulbs that actually fit the lamps. In the UK you can get so many different types of lightbulb; here they seem to come in two sizes only, and all are screw (rather than bayonet). Surely there is a shop that imports European lightbulbs in NYC?!

I know what you mean by the light bulbs, I'm from Australia and we have a lot of different light bulbs. I have never seen bayonet light bulbs here but then I haven't looked for them. Have you tried down around Chinatown? I think it is Bowery St or around there where there a many lighting shops, they may carry them.

Thanks KM!!
I have a beutiful Brazilian lamp given as a gift. The cord was easy enough to replace, but the funny little light bulb is impossible to find. I hope I am in luck with a couple of emails and photos.

International light bulbs can be very confusing. Just because the light bulb that came with your fixture is 220 volts doesn't mean that this is the appropriate choice if you are using the bulb here. In most (but not all) cases a 120 volt bulb with the foreign fitting will produce twice as much light.

At the same time, if you take an American light with you overseas where the power is 220 volts, your light bulb will actually explode when you plug it in there. You must have with you an American style bulb that operates on 220 volts. This will not be an easy thing to find over there. You are advised to bring it with you.

With all of these options, you rarely need to rewire a light when traveling from country to country.

Seeing this is an older post but I thought I will try my luck.
So we are leaving Germany and I am just about to post my Lamps for sale when I come across a sticker on my Lamp that says: "110-220V" So now I am confused because the cable is a euro cable and it is a 220v. Can I take it back to the US? And if so do I have to replace the power cord? How difficult is that? Sorry but I have only basic knowledge in electric issuessmiling smiley))
Thank you in advance!!!
