There are MILLIONS of Rats in NYC. Counting the rats scurrying on the tracks is a past time of mine. But lately I have not seen any, not a one. I wonder what deadly toxic poison their spraying. Rats love Dunkin Dunuts.

Watching the rats scurrying along the tracks is a good way to pass the time while waiting for a train. I haven't seen any for a while either and I have noticed a lot of signs warning that poisoning is in progess.

I have seen a couple of rats on the tracks this week. Don't worry...they never come up on the platform.

I've seen some on the platform!
It's very unusual, that is for sure, I don't want to scare any out-of-towners, but I have seen them on the platform before. It's gross.
I've seen them at the Bedford Ave L stop and also at 34th St on the A.

I live in Chelsea (18th betw 7th and 8th aves)...i see especially large rats-- in the subway, on the street, in the garbage cans/ bags on the sidewalk- etc...all the time. At least once per day, if not several, particularly at night. And i live in a neighborhood where the average rent is $ 2400. go figure. I'd say you get used to it but...not really. but it is a part of the landscape for real, for better or worse.

As long as people throw their garbage in the tracks, there will be rats.

I see them all the time in the subway tracks. Very, very rarely you'll see one up on the platform, but really I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen them up on the platform, and I'm living here my whole life.

Any time utility workers dig up the street, there will be lots of rats above ground.

Personally, I'd rather see a rat than a cockroach.

Saw two little furry fellas at the Greenpoint Avenue station in Brookyln this past Friday. Caught a glmipse of two hefty ones waiting around 34th Street's station. Not to mention some running around the garbage cans outside Madison Square Garden. Two drunks were throwing trash and whatnot at them.

Brings back the thrill my daughter had on her first trip to NY of spying her first rat on the tracks. She had read about them in the Fearless series (teenage series set in NY)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fearless_(book_series)

Maybe I'm alone, but I think as long as they stay on the tracks they're kind of cute. They remind me that even in a concrete hole in the ground, we live in nature, with other animals who we coexist with.

I agree with Red, they are cute, from a distance.
