The last time I ate there it was a promotion by the daily news : Parking, dinner at Mama Leone's and the Xmas show at Radio City.
At there only twice and will never forget the wonderful place it was, along
with the wonderful food, portions and service. I still have its matchbook.
Such a shame it closed. It did reopen on the other side of Broadway for
a while, but finally did close never to open again. Waaaaaaaa ! ! !

My aunt and Uncle took me on a trip when I was 10. It included a trip to NYC and one of the things I remember was eating at Mama Leones. I had never eaten at an Authentic Italian Restaurant before and we all had the seven course meal. Unbelievable! I did not know they had closed. I was considering a visit and I wanted to make that part of the trip. I am so disapointed!

I agree. Mama Leone's not only had lousy service but the food was the most over-rated stuff I've ever eaten. My Mom and Wife would have been mortified if they ever went there.
Tony DiNapoli's on W 43rd at Broadway offers the type of food and experience that Mama Leone's touted but couldn't deliver. They're also over on 2nd Ave. Worth it.

I visted NYC twice in the early 80's and both times we ate at Mama Leone's. It was exceptional. The food was awesome and the service was superb. I am very sorry to hear about them going out of business. I have never found another italian restaraunt anywhere that can make lasagne as good as Mama's. Not even close.

My parents took my brother and me from Johnson City to NYC. While in the Big Apple, they took us to Mama Leones. I wen tto the bathroom and found a plate with coins. I thought they were for the people using the bathroom. I was 5 at the time in 1958. I was told to take it back. The meal I had was Spaghetti with garlic sauce. I loved it. I was back in NYC in 1991 after Desert Storm. I walked over to Broadway and saw a Mama Leones there. I dont know if it was the same place. My friend took me to the Pizza Bowl. excellent place for pasta. Dont know if that is still there.

My beloved aunt Lucille Crowley was a cook at Mama's for over 30 years durng the 50's, 60's and 70's. We lived on Long Island and when I visited, I was treated like a prince.I will always remember the great food I had there.
