This list has too few movies that show the boroughs.
So how about these:
The Opportunists (with Christopher Walken and Cindy Lauper)
Goodfellas (I know, it's a mob movie, but it's the NYC mobs)
The Squid and the Whale (yeah, I know, the squid and the whale are in Manhattan, but the movie mostly takes place in Brooklyn)
Radio Days
Moscow on the Hudson, Enemies: a Love Story, Next Stop Greenwich Village, and other Paul Mazursky films
My Favorite Year
On the Waterfront
and going back across the river:
King Kong (a movie that shows that NYC is no place to monkey around with)
Guys and Dolls (My kind of town . . . )
On the Town
The Odd Couple
Ghost Busters
Crossing Delancy
Ragtime
I could go on . . .
and on and on.

American Gangster. I loved it. Best Picture prediction....although Crowes Jersey accent was not 'spot on' as some reviewers have indicated

I Am Legend... with Will Smith looks pretty good....what a stinker! Glad I only played 1/2 price at our local Sunnyside Theater...weak story telling...a mess of a movie.

Serious buzz on this one.
Two things were noticeable about the line of people awaiting the 12:01 a.m. Lincoln Square cinema premiere of the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight. First, the affinity most of the waiting masses appeared to feel with the Caped One; second, the bizarre impression many of the waiting seemed to have that they had seen the movie already.

Here's a rather indepth overview of a movie we recently watched the other evening which we very much enjoyed called The Visitor. Here's an excerpt from the review:
Mr. Jenkins manages at once to deflect and to earn the audience’s sympathy, and to convey an inner transformation brought about by a shy, unselfish engagement with other people. How does he do it? Great acting is always, almost by definition, something of a mystery, a blend of technique and instinct for which no identifiable formula exists. Mr. Jenkins’s posture, his balked smile, the occasional fidget of his hands or pause in his stride — all of these almost subliminally communicate something about who Walter is, so that by the end of the film we feel we know him very well. And more than that, that he is someone worth knowing.
