Everyone's personal experience will vary ofcourse like with any other type of service provider. However there is a HUGE difference in service Dominicans provide. Even without being fluent in English there is a emphasis on maintenance, growth, scalp massage, deep shampooing, regular trimming, lower pricing, fast, reliable service.
Once you've exhuasted yourself of the overbooking, overpriced, extended waiting times and evergossiping atmosphere of blackowned salons, only then will you cross over and ask yourself why you didnt cross over sooner. Unless there isnt one in your city, why should you not benefif from the regular maintence and attention given to you, including friendly service who often offer, refreshments, tea, coffee etc. All without trying to be UPSCALE.
Yes they do tend to use HIGH HEAT on the blow, I have no hesitation to ask for lower heat, and often pass on the blow and just leave with a wrap. This will depend on your hair type.
I made the switch over 10 years ago, couldnt take the delays and gossip....have never regretted switching. It doesnt mean all salons are equal, just find one that works for you.
Just neeed to clarify something from my last post. Dominican's ARE Black (brought to DR as slaves by the Spaniards) and are most familiar with ALL types of Black hair. Their approach to Hair care is on the maintenace and grooming....unlike African American salons who's approcah to hair is on STYLING.
My wife and I moved from London, England a year ago. Now as my wife is native jamacan, she has been on the hunt for a hair saloon which could look after her hair appropriately. After trying many different saloons, she has finally found THE ONE that could groom her hair in the way it needed to be.

The place is called Haris Castle and it is off york avenue. Here's the map I found:

To answer someone's question about the Triad area in North Carolina... there is a dominican salon in Greensboro. You may have found that out by now. I used to live in the area and could not find one when I lived there - but after leaving in 2008, I'm told there is one in Greensboro. Sorry I don't have more info than that. I live in the Chattanooga, TN area now and WISH I COULD FIND ONE DOWN HERE!!! If anyone knows - please reply! smiling smiley
If you live in the Hampton Roads area or planning a vacation or thinking about relocating I highly recommend QuisQueya Dominican Beauty Salon 7616 Sewells Point Rd Norfolk VA 23513. The stylist are excellent not your typical blow-out salon. Although they do not take appointments there is one stylist that stands out her name is Ms. Hilda this Dominican sister really understands hair. I was reccomend by a very good friend of mines that lives in Port St Lucie Fl. My hair was damaged after a temporary stint of wearing tracks and extensions. I started to wear them after my then healthy hair starting to shed and eventually my edges were very damaged. I was no longer able to afford purchasing hair tracks and extensions. As fate would have it the stylist who convinced me to take a chance with allowing my hair to grow and get healthy again was Ms.Hilda, although my hair was badly damaged she told me to allow her 6 months and follow her directions by not applying heat to my hair, recommending the keritan treatment for my hair texture, the importance of conditioning my hair my hair is back to the road of recovery. Don't get me wrong all of the stylist can do hair but Hilda educates her customers on the importance of not just having a great style which she is an excellent hair stylist but focuses on the importance of healthy hair styles that fit your personality. She is not a stylist that believes in one size fits all she services the customers on what is best for your hair and looking good. If you want you hair health and style to stand out instead of blending in I highly recommend Ms Hilda. My out of town relatives from NY, NJ, MD, NC, SC, Fl are planning to visit Hampton Roads once a month just to have Ms. Hilda do their hair on a regular basis The phone number is 757-531-7131 Ms. Hilda is a great inspiration. Ysabel (the owner of QuisQueya Dominican Beauty Salon) should be very proud of all of her stylist especially Ms. Hilda she is a great asset to this beauty salon
