What size bad did you have? We'll likely have one holdall/duffel bag sized bag, would Macy's hold this bag from 12pm to say 8:30 / 9pm?

Hi there...

I am currently studying in Pennsylvania as an exchange student, but before I have to pay the excess baggage fee and fly back to Denmark, my plan is to travel 5 weeks on the west coast. My plane home, however, is from Newark, so instead of dragging all of my baggage around the coast, I would like to store it somewhere in NY - Is there ANY possibility of this happening - and what might the cost be??

Thanks!

You might consider talk to the airline, because you can ship the luggage ahead of time. You just have to make sure someone can get it for you in DK.

Does anyone else thinks closing down luggage storage services across the city and at airports is a bit of an over reaction to 9/11?? All it would have taken is to have people consent to having their bags searched when they check them in.

Anyway, I myself will overnight in NY Aug17 and will try to store my luggage with Schwartz Travel services, and report back. Gotta thank you guys for all the info. I couldn't imagine traveling the subway with luggage during rush hour the next morning!

GREAT THREAD! This is very helpful! I called Schwartz Travel and they are still in opperation, so I'll probably do that as a backup plan. I have a question about the "Buy a cheap Amtrak Ticket Method."

Is the Long Island Railroad run by Amtrak? I have to take it to the Copaige stop to stay at my step-brother's house anyway.

If it is, could I just check my luggage in super early (2PM), and then take my train at 7 or 8?

I have been reading this thread from start to finish, in the same predicament as the original poster and it has really helped out a lot. We're getting in around 1030 in Long Island and taking the train to Penn St. but are on a bit of a time crunch to get to the Yankees game by 1:05 without a place to take our luggage. I spoke to Amtrak earlier today and they said that the LIRR is not a valid ticket since it is MTA NY.

I just spoke on the phone with Schwartz and they are across the street from the 8th Ave. exit in Penn St., next to the AC train which I can then take a couple stops north to Columbus Cir and transfer to the BD train straight to the Bronx. This is going to help out tremendously.

Thanks to everyone's suggestions on this thread!

Hi, I really appreciate this thread regarding luggage storage. It has lessen my concerns. Maybe anyone can also give inputs on things to do in NY. I will be arriving on July 23 at JFK airport and will be staying until July 28. I would like to visit Niagara Falls too, does anyone know how to get there?
Please go to search on site ...lots of info on Niagara, Here's one thread.

Location: ManhattanSchwartz Travel Services is amazing. The place is rather unassuming, but the service is invaluable and trustworthy. It's a little hard to find, and you'd only find it if you're knowingly looking for it, but as a traveler in Manhattan, it was very convenient.

I used them for their 24 hour luggage storage. I had been staying with a relative in New Jersey, and had to get to New York City in the early morning, and was wanting to travel and sightsee a bit more before my flight at 8:30 pm that night. My luggage would've made this impossible, but then I found this place.

For $10 a piece, I was able to drop off all my luggage for 12 hours or so, and the service was courteous and the place was clean and seemed reputable. The clerk was a very nice lady who was patient and polite, and helped us with the luggage and stored it on shelves in the back of the office. This seemed a little open for me to feel safe about my belongings, but we had locks, and few things of value, so I dealt with it. When I left that night, not a thing was moved in any of the bags, and the clerk was friendly and helpful, and I was on my way with a smile.

The location is fairly convenient as well, situated only 2 blocks from Penn station, and 6 blocks from Times Square.
