my younger brother found an apartment on 135th and broadway. he is 23 and just moving to nyc for the first time. Is it safe for him to live there?

im 42 white and very very country,,wear my alabama hat and been on @619 w 143 st off braodway,,just up from the apollo club,,been out a few times after dark to eat,,had geat food and didnt feel threatened,,,of course,,id suggest watching out for groups of youths hanging out together,,and ride the bus during the day just to get a feel when you get here,,there are a couple of really really nice places a couple of blocks from here,,and obvious gang activity a couple blocks the other way,,,so its not a good idea to wander around after dark,,but as far as it goes,,they treat mea and my country accent really nice so far im having a blast!!!!!

Yes, Harlem is very safe. However, be aware of your surroundings and stay in well lighted and populated areas. Harlem runs from 110 street to 155 street.It is a neighborhood in Manhattan.

How is 103rd street Between Riverside drive and Broadway?

I am looking into E.114th between 1st and 2nd. From everything ive look up from resturant reviews to the pricing of the aparments around there, and even street ratings everything seems fine to me.
Sure everyone will have doubts about where they live and the quality of the area, however once you settle in and people get to know your face you become apart of the street and the culture... its your home too.
Just stay confident, cool and collected.

I'm considering moving into an apartment in a townhouse in the Hamilton Heights/Harlem area. It's in the lower 150s near Broadway and the chruch of the intercession cemetery. Anybody familiar with this area? What can you tell me about it?

I'm really sick of these ridiculous posts about whether Harlem is safe. YOU LIVE IN NEW YORK CITY. Your safety is no more at risk in Harlem than below 110th St. And quite honestly your real issue is that you're scared of brown people. Banjoboi had a great response so I do not feel a need to elaborate any further. If you're concerned about your safety then DON'T COME TO HARLEM. Continue paying your higher rent downtown and elsewhere.

I am visiting NY this November. We're with a couple of friends and we chose to stay in Harlem, 123rd street between 7th and 8th ave.
Does anyone have some tips for me ?
Like some good music bars or local restaurants?

We will be doing a lot of sightseeing I suppose, what would you recommend for transport?

Are there any grocery stores nearby as well?
