Is Harlem safe at night?

All these questions about the safety of NYC are really insulting. I'm getting tired of them.
I'm fairly certain that in the last 20 years NOBODY has been killed, assaulted or mugged going to church on Sunday morning in Harlem.
Now if you are planning on getting rip roaring drunk and returning to your room in Harlem at 3am, you might be opening yourself up to danger. But consider this, the same No-Good-Nic could just as easily take a train downtown and find you in the bar, no matter where you stay in the city.
Nearly all the violence in the city is between people who are known to each other, rival gangs, ex-lovers, convenience store clerks etc. Tourists get a free pass. Come have a good time, but don't block the sidewalk in front of me. Rant off.

I am going to NYC for the first time with two girlfriends and found a reasonable rental at 372 W 122nd St, is this an okay neighborhood for three women in their mid-twenties to stay for 2 weeks?

Thanks!

yes and no, this is NYC anything could happen and does happen everywhere, but its dangerous to be out alone at late hours , for the most part its the young teen age kids that are more prone to attacking people or harassing them, the area has been on an upswing with new condos and yuppies moving in, lots of police presence seems to have helped just a little, there are still certain blocks which have lots of drugs and drug users like 125th and Lex. with homeless shelter and methadone clinics right there where the people seem to gather and hang out, also if you are white and concerned i can tell you that when you get harassed or threatened it increases the risk of police being called and the drug dealers dont want that, so it is kinda understood that messing around with tourists or out of towners is not worth it , but there are still a few lone wolves that dont care , so just be alert , take your i pod out of your ears have your hand on your cell phone ready to dial 911 if need be and if you are thinking of moving somewhere go and walk around the neighborhood to get a feel for it

Hey there
ive never been to New York 1st time visitor from New Zealand, i like a look of an apartment to stay for a week in Harlem, Harlem looks like a great price area for a short holiday as close to Manhatten etc the apartment is on W 127th Street between 7th Ave & Lenox Ave (i have no idea how the street system works), i realise there is some false pretences on Harlem but would be nice to get a local opinion as i would for any area in any country. otherwise recommend another area with competitve prices and subway systems. Cheers

How safe is 126 between Lenox and Adam Clayton Powell? (This would be right behind the ACP building.)

I was at Sin City Strip club in harlem...After I left, I felt a bit scared b/c there was no cabs to find. Then found myself being chased by 4 goons and luckily saw a taxi pulling up my way..Safe

Hey ya'll I just moved from Astoria to Harlem on 104th st and 1st ave. I loved Astoria and never had an issue. My friend says where I just moved to is pretty good to but I was just wondering if any locals there could give me advice. I love lots of Harlem but never have been to this part! Thanks!!!

hi, E 104th is ok, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, park avenue not safe above 99th street (only at night, ok during the day). Lexington avenue is ok below 102nd street.
Madison and fifth are ok below 106th street.

Hey I actually have the same question: me, 2 other ladies in their 20s and 1 male same age are looking to move in to an affordable apartment on 140th and lenox. I walked around the area the other day at dusk and felt fine about it. But just wondering what are other thoughts. I'm having some serious issues finding affordable but safe apartments in this city.
