Of course a yuppie from bayside is gonna say that those neighborhoods are ghetto. The only real dangerous spots in queens are queensbridge projects, lefrak city, and some spots of Jamaica. Those are the spots u better know someone before you go. otherwise Queens is a safe spot as long as you act like you belong. Corona queens 103st. represent! Go to jackson heights for great colombian, mexican, ecuadorian or indian food. Go to Corona for Jardin de China. Queens is tight. I miss it.

copk killa queens is part of nyc we have way more police in nyc then anywhere in america statistically 3x more queens does have alot of bad hoods and projects but theres a few white hoods to that aint that bad far-rocc,jamaica,corona,flushing,longislandcity,hollis,auburndale and woodside have more crime in those hoods r.i.p to pashad gray he was 15 gunned down on christmas eve of 06 in flushing queens by ms13k r.i.p big mo who was also gunned down i flushing queens by ms13k Fears of a surge in gang violence in the wake of the Flushing shooting deaths of 21-year-old Maurice Parker May 18 and 15-year-old Pashad Gray Dec. 24 have prompted city leaders to focus on community outreach and cooperation with police officials, who say without the public’s help they are often missing key pieces to the puzzle when attempting to arrest perpetrators of violent crimes.

Parker was killed shortly after midnight while talking on his cell phone in front of El Boom Convenience Store at 41-08 Bowne St. Authorities and witnesses said he was confronted by two or three Hispanic men in light blue shirts, suspected of being members of the El Salvadorian gang Mara Salvatrucha 13, or MS-13.

Police said Parker was shot in the head at point-blank range before the men fled the scene on foot, possibly to waiting motorcycles or a truck parked nearby.

Officers in the 109th Precinct have said Parker, who friends contend was not involved in any gangs, was probably in the wrong place at the wrong time, mistaken for someone the gang was targeting for murder.

Authorities familiar with the investigation said they have reason to believe members of the community know who Parker’s killer is, but as of yet no one has come forward with this information. No arrests had been made in the case as of Tuesday evening, but police said the investigation was active and ongoing.

Residents and community leaders believe that Gray’s unsolved murder in December at 132-40 Sanford Ave. is related to MS-13.

Democratic District Leader Martha Flores-Vasquez, who operates a community outreach hotline in the area, said many residents of the neighborhood are often afraid to go to the police with valuable information, for fear of reprisals from gangs and criminals. Vasquez said residents have told her they believe MS-13 has infiltrated the ranks of the 109th Precinct, something she said is absolutely untrue, and that more needs to be done to forge cooperation between the community and police in the area.

“If nobody calls them and tells them what’s going on, they can’t fix it,” she said. “There should be no fear in communicating to the Police Department. As long as that continues we’re not going to solve the problem.”

109th Community Affairs Detective Kisoo Kim said he understands the reluctance to come forward in cases like these, but pointed out that protection of the community is of utmost importance to the precinct.

“Their anonymity is a priority to us. We will do anything in our power to keep them out of harm’s way and out of the public limelight,” he said. “At the same time, we need these pieces of information in order to further our investigation.”

Police deny the presence of MS-13 is growing in Queens, but estimate that the gang has about 500 known active members in the borough, mainly in the 103rd, 114th and 110th precincts. Police said MS-13, whose members often have tattoos advertising their affiliation with the gang and wear blue and white representing the colors of the El Salvadorian flag, was organized in Los Angeles and spread across the country. It is viewed by police as one of the most violent and dangerous groups in the city.

Vasquez is organizing a block party, planned for July 22, with City Councilman John Liu (D-Flushing) that will offer information and outreach to youths and parents in the area. Liu said he hopes the block party will “instill a sense of civic pride” and build relationships within community the but added that their must be a concerted effort from everyone involved.

“There does need to be stronger sense of cooperation between the community and the police,” he said. “All sides have to work harder.”

An award-winning nonprofit film organization called the Ghetto Film School will run the school, which will offer a rigorous liberal-arts curriculum, cinema studies courses and a six-week production class taught by industry professionals.

Ghetto Film School founder Joe Hall called Cinema School the first such school in the United States. He said it was made possible through a partnership with the Department of Education and film industry supporters.

Ghetto, which has been honoured by the mayor's office and the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, announced Thursday it will accept a small class of ninth-graders for the 2009-10 school year. Prospective students will be selected based on grades, writing samples and teacher recommendations.

LEFRAK CITY brings true definition to the term, "Concrete Jungle". It's a huge housing complex, not project, in Corona. But structurally speaking, it's the same as a housing project (I guess it is comparable to the Park Hill housing complex in Staten Island...another place that is definitely "ghetto"...walked by there last summer...and honestly, it was a more intimidating experience than any of the housing projects I've been at - which, admitedly, is only Regent Park & St. James Town (where I once resided...'95-'03) in T-Dot, where I was born and live...). Anyway, I can personally attest to the fact that Lefrak City is, as you say, "Ghetto". My main man's big cousin lives there. So I actually stayed there for a couple of days. It's a real urban jungle, man. But mainly It's all about what goes down after dark, like any other grimey area of any large city in North America. You best know somebody or have a pass to get in or thru that spot, otherwise you'll be shook. And I once lived in the poorest area of downtown Toronto. Doesn't compare to LEFRAK. St. James might as well be the fuckin Poconos...Lefrak: Those incredibly large, looming buildings are enough to make the average cat shit in his knickers, word.

St. James Town 2 Lefrak. Did It. Would Do It Again. But with much Caution.

Peace.

Unless you are referring to South Jamaica and St.Albans on the other side of Farmers Queens is nice. Laurelton, Springfield Gardens, Rosedale is nice. Again that's on the other side of Merrick.
