There are several Fairfield Inns. What's the address of your hotel?

There are two Airtrain destinations - Howard Beach and Jamaica. Take the Howard Beach Airtrain. You pay $5 per person as you exit.

Then take the Manhattan-bound A subway to Jay Street/Metrotech. Transfer there for the Manhattan-bound F subway to East Broadway. Your hotel is one block away.

If you're going to be here for at least four days, your best bet is the 7-day unlimited ride metrocard, for $31 each. Strangely, the metrocard kiosks at the Airtrain exit only sell pay-per-ride cards. So buy one pay-per-ride for $40 as you exit, which will cover the four of you for your round trips on the Airtrain (or $20 for one way), and then buy your unlimited cards at the subway entrance. (Up to four people can share one pay-per-ride card; each person must have their own unlimited-ride card.)

If the newsstand is open at the Airtrain exit, ask if they have the metrocards (sometimes they do, sometimes they don't). If they have them, you'll save the $1 card fee that the kiosks charge.

An alternative to the subway is to take a yellow taxi. Don't accept rides from the touts who approach you at the airport. Go only to the official taxi line. It's a flat rate of $52.50, plus tip and toll, or about $70 total for the four of you.

If you're coming off an international flight, do yourself a favor and take a taxi.
